Cost Explanation Of Portrait Photography
Many people (including myself before I became a photographer) ask about the prices associated with prints, portraits, collages, etc. So here is my best attempt at a detailed explanation...
A typical session involves driving to meet you at your location, getting set-up, and then 1-2 hours of shooting time. After the photo shoot, I transfer the digital files onto my computer After the transfer of the pictures, I run each photo through a color correction process on Photoshop Elements 8. Next I open the photographs in Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 where I can re-size the images and retouch blemishes, use color enhancements, adjust contrast and brightness levels, convert to black & white images, etc. to make them more aesthetically-pleasing. Upon request I will put a few collages together for you that contain the best shots. These collages are custom-designed with graphics, special backgrounds, borders, and edge burn-ins. Finally, after the initial post-production process, I create the client’s CD. So, the total time involved from start to finish is typically anywhere from 6-10 hours, depending on your session.

Day Of Your Photography Session
The Session
Your session can last up to 2 hours. I take my time and do my best to make your little ones comfortable with me. As I want to capture their true personality, I will not rush the session and I encourage breaks. Please be sure to have drinks and a snack handy for your little ones! All sessions are on-location and can be at your home, your backyard, favorite spot, the beach or nearby park. You choose what you know will be most comfortable for your family.

Home Sessions
At the start of each session I will look through your home to find the best light. I'll search out places such as a comfy chair, the family bed, a cozy corner, sofa or Sun-room. Don't worry about cleaning, just a minor tidying up in fine!
Clothing Choice
Please be aware that styling, clothing choices and hair are very important to the outcome of your shoot! That being said, my style is very casual, and I want to catch you in your everyday moments of living. I personally love bright, solid colors (like hot pink, orange, green, bright blues), layers, hats, scarves, Ugg boots, fun hair bands, funky tights....
Avoid plaids, busy prints, shirts with logos and red! For boys, polo shirts or button ups along with jeans or khakis in my opinion works very well! layering a button up over a solid tee is always a nice look too. If yours is a family session, try to coordinate siblings & dads in clothes that compliment each other - simple is best! Keep with the same tones (bright and bold, or subtle and pastel). You don't necessarily all need the same color; just stick with casual and comfy! I encourage you to bring as many clothing choices as you wish, and please bring a hairbrush along as well. Also, feel free to bring any accessories (favorite toy, blanket, knit hats, hair bands and hair ties). Your little ones will give better photographs if they are comfortable!
Newborn Sessions
If you are expecting and plan on booking a newborn session, please take note! To capture newborns in all their fresh born glory, it's best to photograph them in the first 2 weeks of life (preferably week 1) when they are "fresh" and without baby acne. If this curled up look is what you are wanting to capture, please let me know what your due date is and I'll be sure to make a note of it on my calendar (and call me if you deliver early)! The small details can make a big difference in capturing a happy baby- Please make sure your baby is fed before I arrive so he or she has a full tummy. Also, if you would like shots of your baby undressed, please undress him/her before I arrive & loosen their diaper, then wrap the baby in a blanket and feed him/her. A little tip is to raise the temperature slightly - Turning the heat up in the house a little bit does wonders during the shoot. Hats and booties are fun to have on hand (especially those solid bright colors) & photograph very well. My favorite hats come from Etsy.com. I can also special order props at an additional cost from my favorite Etsy.com shops.
Maternity Session
During your session your comfort is very important. Please do not wear anything elastic on your belly for a few hours before your session as elastic can leave unflattering markings on your belly! Watches & jewelry can have the same effect. Keeping the jewelry choices simple works best in pictures. And your feet - If your feet are swollen tight socks can leave marks as well, so wearing flip-flops before your session is advised! Avoid oils & lotions before your session as they can both add shine to your tummy. If you have children let's plan on taking photos with them as well.
Please note that I can order your prints for you for an additional cost, and can also order a wide variety of specialty items, such as mugs, key chains, gallery wrapped canvas, and much more.
